Dental implants are a popular and effective way to replace missing teeth and are designed to blend in with your natural teeth. They are an excellent long-term option for restoring your smile.
Dental implants are made of titanium and other materials that are compatible with the human body. They are posts that are surgically placed in the jaw, where they function as a sturdy anchor for the replacement teeth.
There are three steps to placing an implant:
- To ensure the best outcome, our office will refer you to an implant specialist to place the implant into the jawbone. This is a relatively quick and minor procedure that typically takes less than an hour.
- Next, the bone around the implant must heal in a process called osseointegration. What makes an implant so strong is that the bone actually grows around it and holds it in place. Osseointegration means “combines with the bone” and takes time, typically 3 months, sometimes more.
- Once the implant has integrated, our office will provide the custom-made replacement tooth/teeth designed to blend in with your natural teeth. For a single tooth implant, a dental crown is created to fit on top of the implant. If you are replacing more than a single tooth, a custom-made bridge or denture is fabricated.
